This is an amazing Cake!

Cakes made with cocoa never really appealed to me until I made this one. Its rich chocolatey taste is surprising, as it hardly has any fat. (Of course I add lots of chocolate chips, which changes the fat content drastically).

I First saw this in Gourmet magazine a few years ago, it's originally from the Fannie Farmer cookbook. I use sour milk rather than buttermilk. Buttermilk tastes better, but I never know what to do with leftovers.

  • 1 2/3 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour milk (stir 1 teaspoon vinegar
    into 1 cup milk)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons or more vanilla
  • 1 cup or more chocolate chips

Heat your oven to 350. Mix first 5 ingredients in a large
mixing bowl.Add all the rest of the ingredients and beat until smooth. Bake in two 8-inch pans 20-25 minutes until it pulls away from the pan and a toothpick comes out with no batter on it.
